The Iowa Hawkeyes advanced six wrestlers to tomorrow’s Quarter-final round of the NCAA tournament.  Overall for the championship and consolation round, the Hawks were 8-1.  The biggest match for the Hawks was eleventh seed Alex Meyer coming back from behind to defeat fifth ranked Ryan Preisch of Lehigh, 7-5.  I have called Meyer my dark horse for nationals since before Big Tens.  Meyer now faces third seed Bo Jordan of Ohio State in the quarter-finals.  Jordan edged Meyer 3-2 in the dual meet in January.

Top seed Thomas Gilman looked real sharp, Cory Clark and Brandon Sorensen keep winning.  Kemerer was on fire and Sammy got the fall.  I was just as excited about the two huge wins in the Consolations by Topher Carton with the major decision and Joey Gunther with the decision.

We have just what we want for matchups for the team race tomorrow.  I really like our chances to win all of our Quarter-final matches.

Overall for the day, Iowa had a 16-3 record.  That is a damned good day for the NCAA’s.  Now let’s get ready for tomorrow.

Quarter-finals begin at 10 AM CST.
