TrackWrestling (TrackWrestling.com) is reporting that Pat Downey is transferring to Iowa.  Downey last competed at Iowa State where he was an All American in 2016 by placing fifth at 197 lbs.  Downey, from Maryland, also won a JUCO national title at Iowa Central.

Downey really made a huge impact at the 2017 U.S. Open where he defeated two-time NCAA national champion Gabe Dean of Cornell at 86 kg/189 lbs.

According to the TrackWrestling article, Downey is required to complete his degree at Iowa State before being admitted to Iowa.  He will move to Iowa City this weekend and compete in open and freestyle tournaments while finishing his degree online.

Downey has one year of eligibility remaining.  He would be an immediate national title contender at 184 or 197 for the 2018 NCAA National Championships.
