The pairings for Iowa Wrestling wrestle offs has been announced. There will be some outstanding matches taking place to see who wears the varsity singlet for the legendary Iowa Wrestling program. All of the matches will take place in the Iowa Wrestling room. There will be three matches on Thursday at 3:30. The semifinals will be Friday at 3:30 PM. The wrestle off finals will be at 10 AM Saturday. The Iowa Wrestling Coaches Clinic will follow the wrestling on Friday. The Iowa – Ohio State football game will be at 2:30 PM Saturday.
Projected starter and heralded recruit Alex Marinelli will not be wrestling at 165. Look for Marinelli to crack the starting lineup soon. I believe the best weights overall for close matches will be at 133,141, and 197 and the showdown at 174 of Joey Gunther vs Kaleb Young will be a great match.
I mentioned in an earlier blog that with all of the open weights this year, this will be one of the most contested wrestle offs in Iowa Wrestling history. I am expecting very entertaining matches.
Iowa opens the varsity season with the Iowa City Duals at home on Friday, November 17 against Iowa Central, Buffalo, and North Dakota State.
Admission is free and fans are welcomed and encouraged to attend the wrestle offs. Let’s pack the Iowa Wrestling room for wrestle offs!
