I have received official word that sophomore Joey Gunther has transferred from the University of Iowa. Gunther started for the Hawks the last two seasons and qualified for the NCAA Championships both years. Gunther competed at 165 in 2017 and 174 last season. Gunther will have two years of eligibility remaining in his career.
From Libertyville, IL, Gunther was a member of the Iowa Wrestling Recruiting Class of 2015. Gunther was a two-time Greco-Roman national finalist in high school.
I am surprised to hear of this transfer as I did not see it coming. Best of luck to Joey Gunther in the next chapter of his career.
