Elite recruit Abe Assad will visit the University of Iowa this weekend.  Assad, from Glenbard North High School in Chicago, is as hot as it gets right now for the Recruiting Class of 2019.  Assad recently captured a Bronze at the 2018 World Cadet Freestyle Championships in Zagreb, Croatia at 80 kg/176 lbs.

In the recent FloWrestling rankings, Assad is ranked at #13 overall in the Recruiting Class of 2019 and #1 at 182 lbs.

Assad won the Freestyle and Greco-Roman Cadet World Team Trials title in June and chose to compete at the Freestyle World Championships.  80 kg was known to be the toughest weight in the Freestyle World Team Trials. Assad was a 2017 Cadet Greco-Roman national champion and won a state title for Glenbard North this past season at 170 lbs.

Assad started his high school career at 120 lbs. as a freshman.  I see Assad possibly starting his career at 174 and then moving to 184 within 1-2 years.  I feel as though Assad will be an absolute force at 184 in college and at 86 kg/189 lbs. in International wrestling for Team USA.

Assad is very physical, strong, and aggressive.  I am also impressed with how Assad continues to progress at a high level each year to make himself an elite recruit. Assad also competes for Izzy Style Wrestling. That along with being from Glenbard North makes his status even higher.  That is a great background of tough wrestling.

In a recent Iowa Wrestling Fan Blog and Podcast I stated that Assad was the #1 target recruit for Iowa Wrestling in the Recruiting Class of 2019.  His stock continues to climb and Assad would be a huge addition to the Hawkeye program.

Iowa has had great success with elite recruits in Illinois recently with Jacob Warner (Washington) in the Class of 2017, Anthony Cassioppi (Hononegah High School) in the Class of 2018, and Jason Renteria (Oak Park River Forest).

Iowa Wrestling fans, we want Abe Assad.  Real bad.

It is great to be an Iowa Wrestling fan.

Go Hawks!
