Brandon Sorensen of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club won the 70 kg/154 lbs. title at the Canada Cup in Guelph, Ontario.  Sorensen starting things off with a 11-0 tech fall over Caleb Rutner of LWWC before winning a hard fought 3-3 (criteria) decision over Mario Mason.  In the finals, Sorensen defeated Ganbayar Sanjaa of Mongolia, 2-1.

This is the first Senior level tournament for Sorensen in International Freestyle competition.  Mason and Sanjaa are both veterans that have had quality wins in their career. This is an impressive showing for Sorensen who was a four-time All-American for the Hawks at 149 over the last four years.  This is especially impressive when you factor in that after a career at 149, Sorensen was wrestling at 154 lbs.

I had originally reported that Sammy Brooks would be competing in this tournament.  Brooks did not compete but was coaching Sorensen.
