Sammy Brooks of the HWC will compete for Team USA in the World Cup in Yakutsk, Russia on March 16-17. Brooks will be competing at 86 kg/189 lbs. in his first World Cup.

Former Iowa NCAA national champion Bill Zadick will serve as the head coach for Team USA.

Team USA is the defending World Cup champion after capturing our first team title since 2003 in Iowa City last April. Competition begins at 2 AM CST on Saturday.

From USA Wrestling:

The annual dual-meet event is a highlight of the international wrestling calendar and features the top eight teams from the 2018 World Championships in Budapest.

Under new provisions for the World Cup, the pools have been split automatically based upon the team placement at the previous World Championships.

The USA, which was second in the 2018 Worlds, draws into Group B, which includes third-place Georgia, sixth-place Iran and seventh-place Mongolia.

Group A will include World Team champion Russia, fourth-place Cuba, fifth-place Japan and eighth-place Turkey.

Yakutsk is 15 hours ahead of the U.S. Central time zone. The event will be streamed live in the United States by Trackwrestling. There will also be a television show produced from the event by NBC. Specific broadcast times will be announced when available.
