Nelson Brands and Zach Glazier have been named as the Iowa Wrestling Fan Blog & Podcast Wrestler of the Week for the opening week of competition.  Redshirt freshman Brands made his Iowa Hawkeye debut in Carver-Hawkeye Arena with an impressive 8-4 decision over #21 ranked Matthew Waddell of Tennessee-Chattanooga. Brands was the aggressor with three takedowns and looked very good against a ranked wrestler. Brands is from Iowa City (West HS), Iowa.

Glazier made his college debut at the Grand View Open in Des Moines on Saturday. Glazier, a true freshman from Albert Lea, Minnesota, was 5-0 on the day with two falls, a tech fall, and two major decisions.  In the finals Glazier pinned Sean Kelly of Triton in 2:26 to win the 197 lbs. title in the Fresh/Soph division.

The criteria for Iowa Wrestling Fan Blog & Podcast Wrestler of the Week is an Iowa wrestler that performs at an elite level that best represents Iowa Wrestling in the form of a dominating performance, a come from behind victory, or defeating a higher ranked opponent. 

A Wrestler of the Week was selected from the varsity and also one from the sixteen Hawkeye wrestlers that won seven titles in Open tournaments this weekend.
