Incoming Iowa Wrestling recruits will be competing in very good competition this weekend. Brentli Reyna and Wyatt Henson will be competing at the Beast of the East in Newark, Delaware. This has to be considered one of the top three toughest tournaments in the country every year. Wrestlers from 123 wrestling programs from across the country will be competing on Saturday and Sunday.
Patrick Kennedy will be competing at the always tough Minnesota Christmas Tournament in Rochester MN. Cullan and Colby Schriever and Caleb Rathjen will be at the Battle of Waterloo. This is a dual meet tournament with quite a few of the top rated teams in Iowa in all three classes.
Jesse Ybarra will be a the McClintock Duals and Gabe Christenson will be at the Southeast Polk Invitation. Leif Schroeder will be competing at the CMR Tournament and Cam Lucero will be at the Warrior Classic.
There is a definite trend in high school wrestling for two day tournaments. Of all the tournaments our recruits are competing in this weekend, only Christenson will be at a one day tournament. All of the other tournaments are two days. That is how today’s high school wrestlers rack up 50 plus matches in a season now. It is also unique that the Beast of the East has wrestling on a Sunday.
