It was a good weekend for incoming Iowa Wrestling recruits. Patrick Kennedy (182) and Gabe Christenson (195) won titles at the Cheesehead in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. Kennedy recorded five first period pins on his way to the finals where he won by a 14-3 major decision. Christenson had two tech falls and three falls on his way to the finals where he defeated Quayin Short of Simley, 7-4. The Cheesehead had 33 teams from 8 states and is one of the tougher tournaments in the country.
Colby Shriever had to medical forfeit from the tournament after the Quarterfinals and placed eighth at 145. Cullen Schriever did not compete. Elite uncommitted recruit Nicolar Rivera of Stoughton, WI had to medical forfeit from the tournament after the Quarterfinals and placed eighth at 126.
Jesse Ybarra won the 126 lbs. title at the Mile High Challenge with four first period pins and a decision in the finals. Leif Schroeder won the title at 138 lbs. at the Tom LeProwse Bozeman Invitational with three falls and two tech falls. Wyatt Henson scored a fall, tech fall, major decision, and decision in winning the TRICADA Tournament at 132.
Brentli Reyna, Cam Lucero, and Caleb Rathjen did not have a tournament scheduled this weekend.
