Top ranked Iowa was 3-0 at the Collegiate Wrestling Duals in Niceville Florida. The Hawks defeated #5 North Carolina State in the finals of the Blue Pool, 19-15. Austin DeSanto led the way with a 16-7 major decision. Top ranked Spencer Lee defeated #5 Jakob Camacho, 6-1. With Iowa down 13-15, #7 Jacob Warner won a hard fought 3-2 decision over #15 Issac Trumble. Tony Cassioppi secured the dual meet win with a 6-2 decision over Tyrie Houghton.
Iowa won 24 of 30 matches in the three dual meets.
The Hawks scored bonus points in 10 of their 24 wins. 1 pin, 3 tech falls, 4 major decisions, 1 disqualification due to stalling, and 1 injury default.
Spencer Lee extended his winning streak to 38 matches, outscoring those opponents 463-43.
Iowa now has a 24 match winning streak in dual meets. The longest active streak in the country.
A special mention in regards to the depth of the Iowa Wrestling program. In the North Carolina State dual at 149 Cobe Seibrecht dropped a 7-3 match to #3 Tariq Wilson and scored the last takedown. At 174 Nelson Brands dropped a 4-2 decision to #5 Hayden Hidlay.
Michael Kemerer weighed in but did not compete in the duals.
In the first meet on Monday Iowa shutout Central Michigan 44-0. The Hawks scored bonus points in six of their ten victories. Abe Assad recorded a pin in 2:22, Spencer Lee and Austin DeSanto recorded tech falls, Alex Marinelli won by disqualification due to stalling, Tony Cassioppi won by an injury default, and Max Murin won by a major decision.
Iowa then defeated #21 Lehigh 28-7. Austin DeSanto recorded another tech fall and Spencer Lee and Abe Assad won a major decision. In the biggest match #6 Tony Cassioppi defeated #8 Jordan Wood, 3-2.
