Pat Lugo of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club captured a bronze medal at 65 kg (143 lbs.) at the Dan Kolov-Nikola Petrov International in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria. Lugo came back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Vitalie Bunici of Moldova, 5-3 in the medal round. Down 3-1 at the break, Lugo earned a shot clock point and a takedown before adding another shot clock point for the win.
Lugo defeated Stefan Tonu of Moldova 5-3 in the first round followed by a 10-0 loss to Islam Dudaev of Albania. Lugo then defeated Aikhaan Antonov of Russia 12-2 in repechage to qualify for the bronze medal match.
Lugo was a two-time All American for the University of Iowa in 2019 and 2020.
