Real Woods was named as the Men’s Outstanding Newcomer at the annual Golden Herkys Monday evening. The event was organized by the Iowa Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (ISAAC) to recognize their peers with an awards ceremony at Hancher Auditorium.

Woods was a Big Ten champion and placed second at 141 lbs. at the NCAA National Wrestling Championships. Woods, originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, transferred to Iowa from Stanford and has one year of eligibility remaining. Woods was also named as the Mike Howard Team MVP.

The Iowa Wrestling team was recognized as the Men’s Most Outstanding Team. The Hawks placed second at Big Tens and the NCAA Championships.

The Hawks had 14 wrestlers earn Academic All-Big Ten honors. 

Iowa had six All Americans this season:

125 lbs. Spencer Lee – 6th

141 lbs. Real Woods – 2nd

149 lbs. Max Murin – 6th

174 lbs. Nelson Brands – 5th

197 Jacob Warner – 5th

Hwt. Tony Cassioppi – 4th
