The title of this blog says it all Iowa Wrestling fans.

Elite recruit Bo Bassett committed to the University of Iowa on Flo tonight.

Bo, because only one name it needed, is the #1 overall recruit in the Class of 2026 and ranked #1 at 145.

From Windber, Pennsylvania, Bo wrestles for McCort Bishop and will be joined as a member of the Iowa Wrestling Recruiting Class of 2026 with his high school teammate Owen McMullen.

Bo is the biggest recruit in the country to come out of high school since Spencer Lee in the Class of 2017. He was a 2021 Cadet world champion and won bronze at the 2024 U20 World Championships.

Bo started out with 80 colleges and narrowed his choice down every week until there were four remaining: Iowa, Penn State, Oklahoma State, and Virginia Tech.

This is great news for the entire Iowa Wrestling Nation.

I am still writing about what I called: “The shot heard around the world” when Spencer Lee committed to the Hawks on April 20, 2016.

I am a little too excited to label this event but I have a feeling I am going to be referring to February 4, 2025 when Bo committed for years to come.

Speaking of which, Bo recently said that Spencer Lee is his favorite wrestler and a big influence on him.

I wrote a blog about Bo in November of 2019 when he was in 6th grade:

Bo Bassett – The next Spencer Lee?

As I have done for years I post a blog on Friday for upcoming weekend competitions and a follow up blog with results on my “Recruits in action” series.

I am looking forward to adding Bo Bassett to my blogs as I will follow all of his matches along with all of our other incoming recruits.

Congratulations to the Iowa Wrestling program, boosters and fans.

It is an extra special day to be an Iowa Hawkeye.

Bo is a Hawk!

It is great to be an Iowa Wrestling fan.

Go Hawks!
