Iowa Wrestling recruits Max Murin and Gavin Teasdale were in action at Districts Saturday.  Murin, from Central Cambria, PA competed at District 6 AA in Altoona. Murin was dominating in winning the 138 lbs. district with a first round fall in 1:17, a 21-5 tech fall in 3:01, and a fall in 1:02 in the semifinals.  In the finals, Murin won by a 20-5 tech fall in 4:26 over eighth ranked Tyler Scott of Huntington.

With a 32-0 record, Murin is ranked first in AA at 138 lbs.  He won a state title in 2015 and placed second last year at 126.  Murin is rated fifth at 138 lbs. by Intermat and as the forty-eighth best recruit in the Class of 2017 by FloWrestling and seventh at 138. Murin is a member of the outstanding Iowa Wrestling Recruiting Class of 2017 and is projected to wrestle at 141/149 for the Hawks.

Gavin Teasdale, of Jefferson Morgan, competed at the District 7 AA Section 2 in Canonsburg, PA.  Teasdale was dominate in recording a quarterfinal 21-6 tech fall in 2:19 and then a semifinal 23-8 tech fall in 4:46.  In the finals, Teasdale won a 20-8 major decision over Dillan Jeffrey of Burrell.

Teasdale has moved up to 126 after competing at 120 earlier in the year.  Teasdale was the number one wrestler at 120 and is now ranked second at 126 only behind future teammate Spencer Lee by Flo and Intermat.  Teasdale is 85-0 in his career and will be looking for his third straight state title.  Just a junior, Teasdale is the lead recruit in the Iowa Wrestling Recruiting Class of 2018 and is ranked as the second best overall recruit in the Class of 2018 by FloWrestling.

Murin and Teasdale will be both be at the South West AA Regional on February 24 and 25.

Spencer Lee, the biggest recruit in the history of Iowa Wrestling, is from Franklin Regional High School that is AAA.  Lee will be at the WPIAL Individual Championship on February 24 and 25 and the WPIAL AAA Championships on March 3-4.  Lee is 109-0 in his high school career and it on track to be a four-time state champion and has also already won three world titles in freestyle.

Sammy Sasso from Nazareth, PA is a recruit that gained a lot of attention for winning the Ironman, known as the toughest high school wrestling tournament in the country, with five major decisions. Sasso listed Iowa as one of his five final choices for college.  Check out my blog from January 18: https://iowawrestlingblog.com/2017/01/hawks-are-a-finalist-for-huge-pennsylvania-recruit-sasso/

Sasso was rated number one in the country at 145 by FloWrestling but has recently dropped to 138 where he is ranked second. Sasso is ranked as the sixth best recruit in the Class of 2018 by FloWrestling.  Nazareth won the PIAA Class AAA Duals with a 30-29 win over Bethlehem Catholic on February 11.  Sasso won by a 21-5 tech fall at 152.  He is now at 138.  That is a tough, team player.  I can only guess that Sasso will compete at 149/157 in college.

Sasso will be competing at the District XI Championships at Bethlehem, PA on February 24 and 25 and then at the Northeast Regional Championships on March 3-4, also at Bethlehem.

The PIAA AA and AAA state tournament is in Hershey, PA on March 9, 10, and 11.

I will keep you updated with results on all of the Pennsylvania recruits.
