Nelson Brands of Iowa City West just released a commitment over Twitter that he will be an Iowa Hawkeye.  Brands, a junior,  just won his second straight state title over the weekend at 152 lbs. in 3A.

Brands is the son of two-time World champion, Olympic medalist, and two-time NCAA champ at Iowa Terry Brands, an assistant coach at the University of Iowa and a nephew of head coach Tom Brands.

When you see Nelson wrestle, you will find it easy to believe that he is a Brands.

Brands is currently ranked nineteenth at 152 by FloWrestling.  I look for his ranking to improve as the freestyle season unfolds this spring and summer.

As far as what weight Nelson Brands will be at in college, I can only guess 149/157/165.  It is difficult to tell at this time.  Nelson Brands will be a force at any weight he is at.

This is a great edition to the Iowa Wrestling Recruiting Class of 2018 that already has Gavin Teasdale of Jefferson Morgan, PA.  Teasdale gave a verbal commitment to Iowa last April and is ranked as the second best recruit in the 2018 recruiting class by Flo. Earlier in the season, Teasdale was ranked number one at 120 lbs.  Teasdale has since went up to 126 and is now ranked only behind future teammate Spencer Lee nationally.

Iowa Wrestling continues to pick up great recruits.  I will keep saying the following, because it’s true.  With what Iowa has for wrestlers already in the program and with the recruits on the way, the future looks great for Iowa Wrestling.
