Iowa Wrestling recruit Jacob Warner did not take very long in winning a Sectional title at 195 lbs. to qualify for State. Warner recorded three first period pins. Warner won by fall in his first match in :48, in the semifinals in :36, before pinning Erik Hansen of Burlington in :29. That gave Warner three pins in a combined 1:53. That is impressive.
Warner is from Washington High School that is rated number one in the State of Illinois in 2A. Warner will compete at the Illinois State Tournament this Thursday through Saturday and at State Duals on February 25. Washington is the defending 2A Dual State Champions. Warner won a State title at 170 as a sophomore and at 182 last year as a junior.
Warner is rated as the top 195 lbs. wrestler in the country by every publication that I have seen. Warner is also rated as the ninth best wrestler the country by FloWrestling in their P4P (pound for pound) rankings. With all of his accolades, I still feel as though Warner is very underrated and has a great future ahead of him as an Iowa Hawkeye and for Team USA. Warner is projected to wrestle at 197 for the Hawks.
I will keep you up to date with Warner’s results through the individual and dual state tournament on my blog and on Facebook and Twitter.
