An impressive eighteen Iowa wrestlers were recognized for academic honors during halftime of the Iowa-North Texas football game on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.  The PCA academic honors are from the Presidential Committee on Athletics to honor Hawkeye letter winners who have achieved a minimum 3.0 GPA in the Fall and Spring semesters.  Athletes receive a medal based on the number of times they received the award.

I have mentioned several times in my blog that academics is a top priority for Tom Brands and the Iowa Wrestling program.  Here is proof.  Five of the ten weight classes for Iowa Wrestling starters last year, or 50%, made the PCA academic list: Topher Carton (141), Brandon Sorensen (149), Michael Kemerer (157), Alex Meyer (174), and Sam Stoll/Steven Holloway (Hwt).  That is very impressive and the right way to run a college wrestling program.

Great job and congratulations to the Iowa Wrestlers that achieve success on the mat and in the classroom.
