Incoming Iowa Wrestling recruit Anthony Cassioppi has been named as the State of Illinois recipient of the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award. Cassioppi has a 4.0 GPA at Hononegah High School (Roscoe, IL). Cassioppi won the rare Triple Crown by winning national titles in Folkstyle, Freestyle, and Greco-Roman last season as well as a Gold medal at the Pan American Championships in Lima, Peru in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman. This season Cassioppi has already won his second straight Illinois state title and Folkstyle Nationals.
The award is named after Dave Schultz who was one of the greatest American wrestlers of all time as an Olympic and World champion. Dave Schultz was also one of the great ambassadors the sport of wrestling has ever seen.
Cassioppi is ranked #4 at Hwt by Intermat. Cassioppi is joined by Nelson Brands of Iowa City, IA (West HS) and Joe Kelly of West Liberty, IA in the Iowa Wrestling Recruiting Class of 2018.
