Incoming Iowa Wrestling recruits had a great weekend against top competition. Abe Assad was 5-0 with five falls at The Clash in Rochester, MN. The Clash is one of the toughest dual meet tournaments in the country with 32 teams from around the country.
Iowa recruits had a great showing at the Cheesehead Invitational in Kaukauna, WI. Zach Glazier was 6-0 with four pins and two major decisions in winning the title at 182 Patrick Kennedy continues to dominate by going 6-0 with three falls and three tech falls to win the title at 170. Ryan Sokol captured the title at 132 with a 6-1 decision in the finals over Illinois state champion and #1 Illinois ranked Noah Villarreal of Aurora Christian. Sokol had two falls, two tech falls, and two major decisions to make the finals.
Colby Schriever placed tenth at 138. Cullan Schriever was injured in the third round at 120 and was unable to continue.
Elite recruit Nicolar Rivera of Stoughton, WI, who was on my preseason Recruiting Wish List, was 6-0 with five falls and one tech fall in winning the title at 106.
Iowa Assistant Wrestling Coach Ryan Morningstar was in attendance in Kaukauna, WI to watch the incoming Iowa recruits compete at The Cheesehead.
