Pat Lugo has been named as the Iowa Wrestling Fan Blog & Podcast Wrestler of the Week.  Lugo won the 149 lbs. title at Midlands with a 6-0 record. Lugo started off with a tech fall, fall, and two major decisions.  In the semifinals, Lugo defeated seventh ranked Max Thompsen of Northern Iowa, 3-2.

In the finals, Lugo defeated former top ranked Austin O’Connor of North Carolina, 8-4.   Lugo looked the best of his career with three takedowns and controlled the match. Lugo is now ranked #1 at 149 and O’Connor is ranked #2.

Lugo is a redshirt senior from Homestead, Florida (South Dade HS) and was an All American last season by placing eighth at 149.  Lugo is 10-0 on the season. Five of those ten wins are against wrestlers ranked in the top seventeen in the country and three are former All Americans.  Lugo is looking very good against top competition and is getting better with every match. 

The criteria for Iowa Wrestling Fan Blog & Podcast Wrestler of the Week is an Iowa wrestler that performs at an elite level that best represents Iowa Wrestling in the form of a dominating performance, a come from behind victory, or defeating a higher ranked opponent.
