The home opener for Iowa Wrestling is finally here. The 2021-2022 dual meet edition of Iowa Wrestling will hit the mat tomorrow, Friday, November 19 at 7PM against #21 Princeton. The anticipation for the upcoming Iowa Wrestling season is at an all-time high with over 14,000 season tickets already sold.

Iowa will not have their full starting lineup. On the Match Notes released by the University of Iowa, Spencer Lee and Michael Kemerer were not listed. I am looking forward to the debut of Jesse Ybarra at 125. At 174 the press release had TBD. I am hoping we see Patrick Kennedy move up from 165 to compete in front of the home crowd. Kennedy lost in the closing minute to #2 ranked Alex Marinelli in the 165 lbs. finals at the Luther Open last weekend. I want to see Patrick Kennedy wrestle.

Bretli Reyna, Cobe Siebrecht, and Vince Turk are all listed at 149. Jacob Warner and Zach Glazier are both listed at 197. Warner had an injury default in the finals at Luther last weekend.

The biggest matchup of the night will be at 157. #6 Kaleb Young will face #7 Quincy Monday. I am also looking forward to the match at 184 where Abe Assad will meet up with #24 Travis Stefanik.

This will be the first time fans have been allowed into Carver-Hawkeye Arena for a home dual meet since Iowa defeated Oklahoma State 34-6 on February 23, 2020. It has been a l-o-n-g wait. I am expecting a full house and a crowd that is ready to be entertained by Iowa Wrestling.

You can start the night off with the Hawkeye Wrestling Club Social that will begin at 4PM at the Sports Column in Iowa City. The Sports Column is at 12 S Dubuque St in downtown Iowa City. There will be drink specials, raffles, and members of the HWC. The meet will be shown on several big screens for fans that were unable to obtain tickets.

The dual will be streamed online by B1Gt.

Let’s get ’em in the middle.
