Ben Kueter started it all off for the epic recruiting run that Iowa Wrestling had this fall. Kueter committed to both Iowa Wrestling and Iowa Football on September 19. That is a very rare thing in today’s world of specialization. Kueter is just a junior and in the Recruiting Class of 2023.
As I stated in an earlier blog I have never seen anything quite like Ben Kueter. I went through all of the former Iowa wrestlers that I know and Kueter is the best all around athlete of them all at this time. Kueter just finished the football season as the leader in 5A (Iowa’s biggest schools) as the state leader in tackles and tackles for loss and by a large margin in both. He also is very good as a receiver.
Add in he was in a Drake Relays runner-up relay and a starter for a sub-state baseball team and you have an athlete with a lot of options. If anyone can make it in both elite football and wrestling, Kueter is it. I am just glad that Kueter will be a Hawkeye.
Speaking of wrestling Kueter is an undefeated two-time state champion at City High (Iowa City, Iowa). He won a state title at 160 as a freshman and at 195 last season as a sophomore. He placed second at Junior Nationals at 220 last summer. At 6’3” and 220 lbs. right now Kueter will likely compete at Hwt in college. I can see Kueter wrestling in the Olympics or playing in the NFL depending on the path he chooses. The sky is the limit with this guy.
We have a lot to follow this season with 13 incoming recruits competing all across the country. I will do my best to bring you results this season for all of our incoming recruits right here on my blog.
The future looks great for Iowa Wrestling.
