Iowa Wrestling will have nine wrestlers competing at the UNI Open on Saturday. Six wrestlers will be attached and three will compete unattached.
Drake Ayala, Caleb Rathjen, and Zach Glazier will compete as Unattached. I am looking forward to seeing Drake Ayala compete for the first time this season. Ayala stepped in as a true freshman at 125 when Spencer Lee went down to injury last year and has been out so far this year with an injury. I was able to see Ayala at the open practices. I am here to tell you Drake Ayala will not be undersized at 125 for the rest of his career. Ayala is all ready to step in for Spencer Lee at 125 next season. I believe he will be a huge factor on the national scene at 125 right away.
Caleb Rathjen will be at 157. He wrestled varsity at 157 for two dual meets where he won against Buffalo and dropped a match against Sacred Heart. Zach Glazier will be competing at 197. He made an appearance on the varsity squad with a tech fall over Sacred Heart.
Jesse Ybarra, Jace Rhodes, Carter Martinson, Jude Link, Easton Fleshman, and Gage Marty will compete as Attached. This will be the first competition of the year for Ybarra who wrestled varsity matches at 125 last season.
Competition will begin at 9 AM CST in the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
