Kyle Klingman released an article for FloWrestling that Val Solorio verbally committed to the University of Iowa. Solorio is the first member of the Recruiting Class of 2024 for the Iowa Women’s Wrestling program.

Solorio moved from Panama City Beach, Florida where she won a state title in 2022 and will compete for Canon-McMillan High School in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania for her senior season. 

Solorio was a 16U National champion in 2021. She competed on the first two women’s cards for Who’s #1 in 2021 and 2022. In the final Girls National High School Rankings for the 2023 season Solorio was ranked 4th at 100 lbs.

Solorio stated in the interview that she was influenced by Spencer Lee from Pennsylvania that went on to become a three-time NCAA National champion for the Iowa Hawkeyes.
