Nanea Estrella of the University of Iowa has been named the USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week. Ranked #3 in the country at 136 lbs., Estrella recorded three tech falls in the home opener for Iowa at the Trailblazer Duals against nationally ranked Presbyterian, Lindenwood, and Sacred Heart.
Estrella is a senior from Makawao, Hawaii.
Iowa dominated the competition in the Trailblazer Duals by defeating Presbyterian 44-1, Lindenwood 43-0, and Sacred Heart 40-4.
In the first competition in legendary Carver-Hawkeye Arena in the history of the program, Iowa broke the record for the most fans to attend a women’s wrestling event with 8,207 fans.
Iowa will compete this Friday and Saturday (Nov 17-18) at the Missouri Valley College Open in Marshall, Missouri.
