The University of Iowa Men’s and Women’s Wrestling teams had a full weekend of competition. With so much going on I wanted to do a recap for fans.
On Friday the University of Iowa Women’s Wrestling team won two dual meets in Marietta, Georgia. The Hawks were originally to face Life. An additional dual meet was added and Iowa also competed against Hastings, ranked #11 in NAIA.
Iowa defeated Hastings 46-1. Iowa won eight of ten matches contested and two by forfeit. The Hawks had four pins and four tech falls. Katja Osteen needed only :21 for a fall at 207.
Iowa defeated Life 30-14. Life is ranked #1 in NAIA and are led by #1 ranked wrestlers at 138, 145, and 160 and twelve ranked wrestlers.
Iowa won seven of ten matches with three pins and two tech falls.
For the two dual meets Iowa went 17-3 with seven pins and six tech falls.

On Saturday afternoon the Iowa Hawkeyes defeated #20 Stanford 32-9 in the 2024-25 home opener. Iowa won six of nine contested matches with three tech falls and two major decisions.
After Kale Petersen received a bye at 125 #7 Drake Ayala dropped a 15-10 decision to #23 Tyler Knox at 133. Ryder Block lost to Aden Valencia 11-6 at 141 to tie the team score at 6-6.
#4 Kyle Parco and #12 Jaden Abas were 0-0 after the first period. Parco then scored three four-point tilts in the second period and a takedown in the third for the 15-0 tech fall.
I predicted that 165 would be the match of the dual meet. It certainly was as #7 Hunter Garvin jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first period. #2 Michael Caliendo responded with classic Hawkeye conditioning and determination to win the match 17-12. That match was Iowa Wrestling.
Lorenzo Norman defeated Nelson Brands 4-1 at 174. At 184 Gabe Arnold continues to impress with a 14-3 major decision. Gotta love the hustle and energy that Arnold brings to a match.
#2 Stephen Buchanan looked great in defeating #17 Nick Stemmet by a 17-1 tech fall. Buchanan looks even better than advertised. Ben Kueter finished the dual meet off with a 19-4 tech fall. To see a Hwt hitting shots like that is impressive. Just a freshman, it is going to be fun to watch Kueter develop between now and Nationals.
Iowa will compete next on Friday, November 15 when they are on the road for a dual meet at Bellarmine in Louisville, Kentucky at 6 PM CST.
