The Iowa Men’s and Women’s Wrestling programs won team titles at Soldier Salute in Coralville, Iowa.
The men’s team had seven champs with Drake Ayala(133), Kyle Parco(149), Michael Caliendo(165), Patrick Kennedy(174), Angelo Ferrari(184), Stephan Buchanan(197), and Ben Kueter(Hwt).
Ayala defeated teammate Kale Petersen who was up at 133 in the finals. At 184 Ferrari won by a medical forfeit over Gabe Arnold.
The Hawks next compete on the road at Wisconsin on Sunday, January 12.
The women’s team had five champs with Brianna Gonzalez(117), Cadence Diduch(138), Macey Kilty(145), Kennedy Blades(160), and Kylie Welker(180).
In the biggest match of the tournament, at 145 Kilty downed teammate and #1 ranked and defending national champion Reese Larramendy, 8-1.
Iowa will be in action next at the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls on Jan 10-11.
