The Iowa Wrestling team will be back on the mats on Sunday and Monday at Soldier Salute. The Hawks last competed on December 6 at Uncivil War with wins over Princeton and Army.
Iowa will have 29 wrestlers competing as an Iowa Hawkeye or unattached. Twenty-three teams are listed to compete in Xtreme Arena in Coralville, Iowa.
We will have to wait and see who actually shows up for the teams listed.
True freshman from the Iowa Wrestling Recruiting Class of 2024 will be a big interest for me. We have Miguel Estrada and Kael Voinovich at 149 and Angelo Ferrari at 184. A potential Ferrari-Gabe Arnold match at 184 would be fun to watch.
I am also looking forward to seeing Kale Petersen at 125. I believe he has a lot of potential to score good points for us at Nationals. Soldier Salute offers Petersen a great opportunity to pick up needed experience and confidence.
Ryder Block(141) and Nelson Brands(174) are not listed at this time.
The Iowa Women’s team will have 22 wrestlers competing.
As a fan I am looking forward to seeing a possible match between defending national champion and #1 ranked Reese Larramendy and teammate and #3 ranked Macey Kilty at 145.
This team is loaded with stars and should entertain the hometown crowd.
Soldier Salute will be streamed live on Big+ premium service.
Steven Grace and Mark Ironside will call the action on AM 800 KXIC and will be audio streamed online at hawkeyesports.com (via YouTube).
