This is the start of my 12th year bringing you Iowa Wrestling news here on my Iowa Wrestling Fan Blog.
Let’s start the year off and take a look at upcoming dual meets in January. I am using InterMat Rankings from yesterday, December 31 for my stats on this blog.
The Hawks will begin the Big Ten season with a dual meet at Wisconsin on Sunday, January 12. Wisconsin has three ranked wrestlers and are not ranked as a team. The Badgers are 4-4 in dual meets and have lost to Ohio, Ryder, Lock Haven, and West Virginia.
Iowa will return to legendary sold out Carver-Hawkeye Arena when they host #12 Illinois on Friday, January 17. Illinois has nine ranked wrestlers so we can count on a competitive dual meet from start to finish.
Illinois is 6-0 on the season with wins over at the time #21 Arizona State, #6 Missouri, and #23 North Carolina.
On Saturday, January 25th the Ohio State Buckeyes come to town for a big dual meet. The Buckeyes are currently ranked #7 and have all ten wrestlers ranked.
There will be some great matchups for a rare Saturday afternoon dual meet in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Following the dual meet will be the annual HWC Arctic Plunge. This is the biggest fundraiser for the Hawkeye Wrestling Club every year.
The entire wrestling world will be tuned in when Iowa travels to #1 Penn State on Friday, January 31. This is the biggest dual met of the season every year.
Penn State has all ten wrestlers ranked and you can expect a full house of fans for the dual meet.
The Penn State dual along with Illinois and Ohio State will be broadcast live on BTN. The Wisconsin meet will be on BIG+.
Until the Wisconsin meet on January 12 Coach Tom Brands stated after Soldier Salute that they would have a training phase and be at work in the new facility.
As I have stated on this blog since I started it twelve years ago, Iowa Wrestling is my entertainment. I plan on being entertained by Iowa Wrestling over the next three months.
