Wrestling fans across the country and around the world will take notice on Friday, January 31 at 6 PM CST. #2 Iowa will be on the road to take on #1 Penn State.
This meet has it all. Live on TV. Huge crowd of over 15,000 fans. Three matches of undefeated wrestlers at 157, 165 and 197. Several wrestlers listed at two weights for the Hawks. Everything is lined up for a great dual meet.
Every single match will be intense as you would expect from a #1 vs. #2 typical Iowa-Penn State dual meet.
Of the ten matches the most anticipated will be at 184. Penn State has four-time NCAA champion Carter Starocci. Iowa has both redshirt freshman #5 Gabe Arnold and true freshman Angelo Ferrari.
Who will take the mat for Iowa at 184? As a fan I want to see Ferrari. I have wanted to see this match since I saw Ferrari in the Iowa room in practice last October. I want to see where he is at right now.
I do not care about clickbait quotes being thrown around. I want to see the Starocci-Ferrari match and this is the one opportunity. This match eventually could break the record for most individual NCAA titles won by two opponents in a match. Leave absolutely no doubt that I definitely want Ferrari to redshirt this season.
The only thing I do know for certain is Tom Brands could care less what people think and he will make the call. 184 does give us fans something extra to look forward to in this meet.
Iowa has the slightly higher ranked wrestlers at 133, 149,157, and 197. Penn State has a big edge in rankings at 125 and 141.
Iowa Wrestling is my entertainment. I plan on being entertained.
Let’s get ‘em in the middle.
