Matt McDonough has been named to the Class of 2025 Iowa High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame induction will be before the Finals of the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, February 22.
McDonough was a three-time state champion at Linn-Mar(Marion) and a four-time placewinner.
McDonough had a 151-15 career high school record.
At Linn-Mar McDonough was coached by former Iowa Hawkeye All American Doug Steicher.
At the University Iowa McDonough was a two-time NCAA national champion, three-time NCAA Finalist and a two-time Big Ten champion.
McDonough won his first NCAA title at 125 lbs. in 2010 as a freshman and was a member of the 2010 NCAA national champion Iowa Hawkeye team.
As a sophomore McDonough won his first Big Ten title and placed second at 125.
In 2012 McDonough won a Big Ten and NCAA title. As a senior McDonough was injured and did not place at Nationals.
In International wrestling McDonough won bronze at the 2014 University World Championships and was a member of the 2014 World Team at 57kg.
Following his wrestling career McDonough coached at Wisconsin and Cornell College and has been involved with coaching for wrestling clubs.
