Owen McMullen announced on October 30 that he has committed to the University of Iowa. McMullen was the first recruit to commit to the Hawks following their big recruiting visits over the weekend.
McMullen, from Johnstown, Pennsylvania, is a junior for Bishop McCort High School and is the first member of the Iowa Wrestling Recruiting Class of 2026.
Iowa was the choice over North Carolina State, Rutgers, Harvard, Air Force, and Brown.
McMullen competed at several weights last season as a sophomore during the high school season and competed at 144 at Cadet Nationals last summer.
McMullen is a member of the Young Guns Wrestling Club that is coached by former Hawkeye All American Jody Strittmatter. Iowa has a great tradition with wrestlers from Young Guns.
Bishop McCort has a real tough schedule with some of the best competition in the country.
As I have done for years I am following all of the incoming recruits for Iowa Wrestling throughout the high school season. I will start with a season preview this week and the high school season will be in full force this weekend.
I will follow all of our incoming recruits in competition on this blog with a preview on Friday and follow up blog with results every weekend throughout the high school season.
