Of all the Iowa wrestlers that I want to see compete this year, Hwt Sam Stoll is at the top of the  list.   In each of the last two seasons, Stoll has went down with a knee injury that required surgery that ended the season for him.  The work ethic, determination, and guts that this guy has show coming back twice now is impressive.

Stoll was ranked #3 at Hwt coming out of Kasson-Mantorville High School (Kasson, MN) in 2014.  He ended his high school career with a national record 63 consecutive pins.  There is no doubt in my mind that Stoll would have placed in each of the last two seasons that were cut short due to injury.  I am anticipating a great year from Sam Stoll in the black and gold.

I am very aware that the Hwt class is loaded with great talent this year.  I also know that a healthy Sam Stoll will be a force to deal with for the rest of the country.  Stoll will also bring leadership to the Iowa team that will be needed with all of the first time starters in the lineup.  The Hawks will more than likely be in several close dual meets this season that will come down to Hwt.  I like the Hawks chances by sending Sam Stoll out on the mat to win the dual.

First of all, what is it like getting ready for you junior year after two years of overcoming injuries?

Sam Stoll: Just ready to wrestle.  It’s been a while.

You are moving really well.  What is your weight at?

Stoll:  260-265.

What are your goals for the upcoming season?

Stoll: Same as they have always been.  To win a national title.

What can you say about the freshman class coming in?

Stoll: They are a great class and they love to work hard.  They are a fun class to be around.  I know there is a lot of hype around them and it will be exciting to see how they turn out.

How do you feel wrestle offs went?

Stoll:  I didn’t get the result that I wanted.  I know that I have a lot of areas to improve.  Just keep wrestling to get better.  He wrestled me good and he wrestled me how a lot of guys are going to wrestle me.  It was a real good feel to have in the room.  It was good.

How is your shape?

Stoll:  Shape wise I feel good.  That is always somewhere to get better and something that I can improve on.  I really didn’t get that tired.  I don’t think I did enough to get tired in that match.  That goes back on me.  I have to get to my offense and maybe work harder.
