HWC open practice and tailgate on Saturday
The Hawkeye Wrestling Club will host an open practice and tailgate on Saturday, September 7. The open practice will be at 8 AM in the Bob and Kathy Nicolls Wrestling Room inside the Goschke Family Wrestling Training Center. What I have named as “The greatest wrestling training facility…in the world!” Home of Iowa Wrestling in Wrestle Town USA – Iowa City, Iowa, USA.
Iowa City will have a buzz of excitement that only comes from the Iowa-Iowa State football game with a 2:30 PM kickoff. The weather looks to be perfect and I am expecting a special day to be in Iowa City as a Hawkeye fan.
The HWC practice should have members of the HWC as well as wrestlers from the men’s and women’s team working out. The new room is huge and there should be enough room. This will provide fans with a great opportunity to see the new recruits, transfers, and returning wrestlers.
This practice will also provide a great opportunity for fans to see the new facility that is absolutely amazing.
I strongly suggest walking through the tunnel from the new facility to the floor of Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Words cannot describe what it is like. You’re gonna love it.
The HWC will host a tailgate outside of the Goschke Family Wrestling Training Center. Hawkeye legends of the past and Iowa Wrestling fans will provide a great crowd to be a part of.
Olympic silver medalist Spencer Lee will be available to sign autographs.
The HWC will honor all past Olympians with a display of Olympic medals from HWC wrestlers inside the Goschke Family Wrestling Training Center.
Donations to the HWC will be accepted and appreciated.
With the 2:30 PM kickoff I would think there would be thousands of fans making their way to tour the new facility and stop by the HWC tailgate.
What a great way to get ready for the upcoming season.
It is great to be an Iowa Wrestling fan.

HWC practice Saturday
The Hawkeye Wrestling Club will have practice tomorrow morning (Saturday, August 31) at 8 AM. This is great news for Iowa Wrestling fans that look forward to a wrestling practice before an Iowa football game. The Hawks host Illinois State with an 11 AM kickoff in Kinnick Stadium.
The HWC practice will be at the Goschke Family Wrestling Training Center in the Bob and Kathy Nicolls Wrestling Room. The $34 million state of the art new facility that I have named “The greatest wrestling training facility…in the world.” Home of Iowa Wrestling in Wrestle Town USA – Iowa City, Iowa, USA.
With the 8AM practice wrestling fans that are not going to the football game will be able to get into town early to watch practice with little traffic. For many football fans going to an Iowa Wrestling practice has been a big part of their football game day experience for decades.
I have stated for years that Iowa has as many or even more fans at a Saturday morning Fall practice than some D-I wrestling programs have for attendance for a dual meet.
This HWC practice will hopefully have wrestlers from the men’s and women’s team working out. The new room is huge and there should be enough room. This would provide fans with a great opportunity to see the new recruits, transfers, and returning wrestlers.
This practice will also provide a great opportunity for fans to see the new facility that is absolutely amazing.
If it is made available to fans I strongly suggest walking through the tunnel from the new facility to the floor of Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Words cannot describe what it is like. You’re gonna love it.
This is always an exciting time of the year as an Iowa Wrestling fan. We are in August and Iowa Wrestling fans are excited. There is nothing like Iowa Wrestling.
Let’s get ‘em in the middle.

Iowa Wrestling at FRYfest
The 15th annual FRYfest will be Friday, August 30 at the Hyatt Regency Coralville and Convention Center. Since the first FRYfest in 2009 this is a great way to start off the new year of Iowa Hawkeye sports.

Part of FRYfest is the “The World’s Largest Hawkeye Tradeshow” where you will find anything Iowa Hawkeye related.

Big changes to Iowa roster
The University of Iowa released the roster for the 2024-25 Iowa Wrestling team. There are a lot of changes from last season with a lot to unpack. Let’s take a look.
I will start with who has left the program.
Joel Jesuroga – 149 (Cal Poly)
Cade Siebrecht – 149 (South Dakota State)
Cobe Siebrecht – 157 (South Dakota State)
Bretli Reyna – 157 (Chattanooga)
Carter Martinson – 157 (Central College)
Carson Martinson – 165 (Central College)
Aiden Riggins – 165 (Iowa State)
Drake Rhodes – 165
Zach Glazier – 197 (South Dakota State)
Bradley Hill – Hwt. (Oklahoma)
Iowa will be adding nine wrestlers in the Recruiting Class of 2024 and two transfers.
Of the incoming recruits I look for Angelo Ferrari to make an impact at 184 this season. It will be interesting to see if he uses a redshirt or competes for the top spot at 184. I am hoping we see Ferrari, the overall and P4P #1 recruit in the country for the Class of 2024, in the starting lineup at 184 this season.
The unknown for me is Miguel Estrada at 149/157. Estrada is a talented wrestler with a lot of potential that could surprise fans this season.
Joe Kennedy of Kasson-Mantorville, Minnesota was a signed recruit but is not on the roster.
Four-time All American Kyle Parco transferred into the program from Arizona State at 149. Three-time All American Stephan Buchanan transferred from Oklahoma at 197. Both will make an immediate impact on the starting lineup.
There has been a lot of online chatter of Jacori Teemer transferring in at 157 from Arizona State. Teemer is a three-time All American and was a national runner-up at 157 last season.
Teemer is listed on the student directory at the University of Iowa in Graduate School but is currently not on the wrestling roster. I will keep you posted.

Buchanan transfers to Iowa
After a lot of speculation over the past several months Stephan Buchanan is an Iowa Hawkeye. When the 2024-25 roster for Iowa Wrestling was released on HawkeyeSports.com Buchanan was listed at 197 lbs.
Buchanan is a three-time All American at 197. Originally from Loyal, Wisconsin, Buchanan competed for Wyoming from 2019-2022 and Oklahoma last season.
As a true freshman in 2020 Buchanan was an NCAA Qualifier at 197 with 26 wins. As a true sophomore in 2021 Buchanan became an All American by placing eighth at 197 with a 14-6 record..
In 2022 Buchanan placed third in the country at 197 with a 28-2 record.
Buchanan took a redshirt for the 2022-23 season and transferred to Oklahoma. Last season Buchanan again placed third at 197 with a 29-3 record with nine wins against ranked opponents. He was also named as an Academic All-Big 12 Team member.
With an 85-25 career record Buchanan is the top returning placewinner at 197 in the country and will have one year of eligibility remaining for his career.
I released a blog yesterday that Zach Glazier had transferred to South Dakota State for his final season. Glazier was an NCAA Qualifier at 197 last season for the Hawks.
On the roster released today Buchanan is the only wrestler listed only at 197. True freshman Jake Howell is listed at 184/197.
This is a huge addition to the 2024-25 Iowa Wrestling team that already added four-time All-American Kyle Parco as a transfer from Arizona State at 149. Parco committed in May and is listed on the Iowa Wrestling roster today.
Buchanan and Parco look to make an immediate impact on Iowa Wrestling on the national level.
The upcoming Iowa Wrestling season just got a lot more interesting and competitive.
It is great to be an Iowa Wrestling fan.

Big Ten schedule released
The Big Ten Conference has released the conference schedule for the 2024-25 wrestling season.
Home Iowa Big Ten meets
Nebraska
Northwestern
Illinois
Ohio State
Away Big Ten meets
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Penn State
Maryland
The Hawks are also set to host Iowa State and Oklahoma State this season as well.
The full Iowa Wrestling schedule for the 2023-24 season was released on October 17 last year. I will keep you up to date when the completed 2024-25 schedule is released.
Season tickets are now available to renew for the 2024-25 Iowa Wrestling season. Iowa has sold out with season tickets sales in early November the last three seasons.
To renew your season tickets or to be added to the waitlist.
Iowa has led the nation in attendance in every season that Tom Brands has been the head coach starting with the 2006-07 season.
Hawk fans will be looking forward to seeing the Hawks make their entrance from the new state of the art wrestling facility through a tunnel and onto the floor of Carver Hawkeye Arena.
The 2024-25 edition of Iowa Wrestling should be fun to watch. I am expecting a sellout crowd for all of the home dual meets.
It is great to be an Iowa Wrestling fan.

Glazier transfers to SDSU
Zach Glazier announced that he is transferring to South Dakota State for his final year of wrestling. Glazier was an NCAA Qualifier and a Big Ten runner-up at 197 lbs. last season for the Hawks.
Glazier was 25-4 last season with two pins, seven tech falls and seven major decisions. He was also 10-4 against nationally ranked opponents.
Glazier is originally from Albert Lea, Minnesota where he was a two-time state champion for Albert Lea Area High School.
At Iowa Glazier was a three-time Letterwinner and Academic All American the last two seasons. He was also named to the Dean’s List in 2022. Last season Glazier was recognized as an NWCA Academic All American.
Iowa has not released their official roster for the 2024-25 season. The only wrestler that will be listed at 197 will be true freshman Brody Sampson of Ballard High School in Huxley, Iowa.
I will keep you up to date when the new roster is released as well as any news of transfers coming into the Iowa Wrestling program.
It is great to be an Iowa Wrestling fan.

2024-25 Iowa Women’s Wrestling roster
The Iowa Women’s Wrestling team won the NCWWC and National Duals titles in their first season of competition in 2024. Between a solid incoming Recruiting Class of 2024 and an elite transfer class the Hawks will have an even better lineup this season.
The biggest addition would be transfer Kennedy Blades who just won Silver at the Paris Olympics at 76kg/167 lbs. Blades is a 2021 U20 world champion and a 2023 U20 bronze medalist. At only 20 years old Blades has a great career ahead of her for Iowa and Team USA.
Macy Kilty is another elite transfer for the program. Kilty won Silver at 65kg/143 lbs. at the 2023 Senior World Championships and was a 2018 Cadet World champion. She has won five age-level World medals for Team USA.
For the Recruiting Class of 2024 I look for Karlee Brooks(124) and Cadence Diduch(138) to make an immediate impact in the starting lineup.
The biggest question is what weight will all of these elite wrestlers compete at. The weight classes have changed from last season and I believe that it is only speculation as to what weight everyone will be competing at.
The biggest question would be Kennedy Blades and Kylie Welker. I predict that Welker will be at 160 and Blades at 180. Iowa will have an amazing lineup.
Iowa will have seven wrestlers competing in World Championships. Brianna Gonzalez(50kg), Cadence Diduch(62kg), Reese Larramendy(65kg) and Naomi Simon(76kg) will represent Team USA at the U20 World Freestyle Championships in Pontevedra, Spain on September 4-6.
Skye Realin(59kg), Macey Kilty(62kg) and Kylie Welker(72kg) will compete at the U23 World Championships in Tirana, Albania on October 24-25.
I will release the 2024-25 schedule when it is announced.
I am looking forward to the 2024-25 season of Iowa Women’s Wrestling.
Transfers
Skye Realin (Central Methodist University/Mililani, Hawaii) – 131 lbs.
Macey Kilty (U.S. Olympic Training Center/Stratford, Wisconsin) – 138/145

Katja Osteen (U.S.Olympic Training Center/Simon Frasier) – 207 lbs.
