Jacob Warner of Washington, IL will represent Team USA at the Cadet World Freestyle Championships this weekend.

Super recruit Jacob Warner of Washington, Illinois will be apart of Team USA competing in the UWW Cadet World Freestyle Championships this weekend.  The tournament takes place in the legendary Tbilisi, Georgia at the New Sports Palace.  In the 1970’s and 80’s, “Tbilisi” was the one word associated with arguably the toughest international freestyle tournament held every year and as I mentioned, legendary.

Warner is a senior and in my opinion the biggest recruit in the Class of 2017 not named Spencer Lee.  Elite recruits at this weightclass are few and far between and I believe that Warner is improving at a rapid pace at an already high level.  I featured Warner in two of my blogs:

July 29th (https://iowawrestlingblog.com/2016/07/jacob-warner-interview-2/

Warner stated in my last interview that he will announce his college choice at Flo headquarters in Austin, Texas on National Letter of Intent Signing Day on Wednesday, November 9th. His top five colleges are Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Purdue, and Ohio State.

The Iowa Wrestling Recruiting Class of 2017 already includes overall number one recruit Spencer Lee and Max Murin, both from Pennsylvania.  Lee recently won his third straight World title and is the biggest recruit in the history of Iowa Wrestling and is on his way to being remembered as the greatest high school wrestler in the history of the United States. Iowa is on the final list for several other highly touted recruits that could make the Recruiting Class of 2017 one of the, if not the best ever in the history of Iowa Wrestling. There is no doubt that Jacob Warner is a huge recruit and would be a great addition to Iowa Wrestling.

Warner will wrestle on Saturday and will be competing at 85 kg (187 lbs.) at the Cadet Worlds.  As I have stated in past blogs, 197 lbs. for college wrestling and 97 kg (213 lbs.) for International wrestling will be perfect for Warner.

In the Cadet World Team Trials in June, Warner dominated and rolled to win both the Freestyle and Greco-Roman divisions, but will compete in Freestyle only for the Worlds.  I look for Warner’s trip to this region over the summer to really payoff.  I am looking for a great World Championships tournament out of Jacob Warner.

Team USA is led by defending Cadet World Champions Yianni Diakomihalis of New York at 63 kg (138 lbs.) and Gable Steveson of Minnesota at 100 kg (220 lbs.).  Diakomihalis, a senior this season, has committed to Cornell and Steveson is just entering his junior year at Apple Valley High School.  Steveson has the potential be the biggest high school Hwt. recruit to come out of the United States since Steve Mocco from New Jersey in 2001.

Another recruit that has gained a lot of added and much deserved press lately is Travis Wittlake of Myrtle Point, Oregon.  Wittlake, in the Recruiting Class of 2018, won both the Freestyle and Greco-Roman Cadet titles in Fargo and the Cadet Folkstyle Nationals in Cedar Falls, IA to win the coveted Triple Crown.  Wittlake will compete at 76 kg (167 lbs.).

FloWrestling will have a live stream and archived matches for all of the wrestling in Freestyle and Greco-Roman (that has already started), and Women’s Freestyle wrestling at www.flowrestling.org and the brackets and results can be found at unitedworldwrestling.org.

I have the FloWrestling premium package and will keep everyone up to date for Jacob Warner’s matches on my Iowa Wrestling Fan Facebook page and on Twitter.
