Marylynne Deede of the University of Iowa will compete at the 2023 NWCA All Star Classic on Tuesday, November 21 at 6 PM CST.  Deede will face Latifah McBride of Life at 160 lbs. at Rec Hall on the campus of Penn State.

Deede is ranked #1 in the NCAA rankings and McBride is ranked #1 in NAIA.

Deede transferred to Iowa from Augsburg where she was a national champion last year and a four-time All American. She has one year of eligibility remaining.

Deede, originally from Springville, Utah, has competed at 155 lbs. for her college career. She placed sixth in 2020 and third in both 2021 and 2022. This past season Deede won the NCWWC 155 lbs. national title with a 31-2 record with 8 pins and 18 tech falls.

The NWCA All Star Classic will be streamed live on FloWrestling.

Incoming Iowa Wrestling recruit Keyan Hernandez will be competing at the National High School Recruiting Showcase in Des Moines this weekend. There is a great group of nationally ranked wrestlers registered to compete.

Hernandez is registered at 126 lbs. 

Hernandez is a three-time state champion from Billings (West HS), Montana and is a member of the Iowa Wrestling Recruiting Class of 2023.

The competition begins at 3 PM CST on Friday (Oct 27) and concludes with the finals at 3 PM Saturday (Oct 28).

Kylie Welker of the University of Iowa will be a late addition on Team USA to compete in the Pan American Championships. Welker will be competing at 76 KG in the Senior division.

The Pan Ams will be in Santiago, Chile with the competition on November 1-4.

Welker is a redshirt freshman from Franksville, Wisconsin (Waterford Union HS) where she was the #1 recruit in the country in 2022.

Welker won the U20 Pan American Championships in dominating fashion last summer by capturing Gold at 76 KG/167 lbs. in Santiago, Chile.

Hannah Sieperda has been named as the Director of Women’s Wrestling Operations. Sieperda is a graduate of the University of Iowa and was a manager for the Iowa Men’s Wrestling team from 2016-2021.

Originally from Rock Rapids, Iowa she has been the Iowa Track and Field Director of Operations since April of 2022. Before her position with the track program Sieperda was the Assistant Director of the University of Iowa Trademark Licensing and Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame and Museum.

Sieperda is currently pursuing a law degree.

The University of Iowa has announced that tickets will be on sale for the Women’s Wrestling season next week. This will be a historic season for the program as the first Power 5 Conference college to have women’s wrestling.

Iowa will have home dual meets with the Trailblazer Duals on Sunday, November 12 and the Iowa Quad Duals on Sunday, January 21.

You also have an opportunity to watch the team compete at Soldier Salute on December 29-30 in Coralville and NCWA National Duals in Cedar Falls on January 5-6.

Iowa will open the season with a dual meet on Saturday, November 4 at East Stroudsburg (PA).

Incoming Iowa Wrestling recruit Keyan Hernandez is registered to compete at Super 32 this weekend. Super 32 is recognized as the best folkstyle high school wrestling tournament in the country every year. 

Ranked wrestlers from around the country will make their way to the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center in Greensboro, North Carolina this Saturday and Sunday, October 21-22.

Hernandez, a three-time state champion from Billings, Montana (West HS) is not seeded at 120.

Miguel Estrada, a three-time state champion from California ranked #3 at 144 by MatScouts was registered for Super 32 at 150. In the official seeds just released by MatScouts Estrada is not listed. 

For the Super 32 high school division, weights 106-132 will begin at 7 AM Saturday. Weights 138-Hwt will begin at 1:30 PM. Wrestling begins at 7 AM on Sunday. All times listed are CST.

Hernandez and Estrada along with Angelo Ferrari are the Iowa Wrestling Recruiting Class of 2024.

Wrestling fans will have quite a few opportunities to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes compete on TV this season. Iowa will be on BTN seven times and FS1 once during the season for dual meets. The Big Ten Championships (BTN) and NCAA Championships will also be televised.

First up will be a dual meet at Nebraska on January 12. Iowa will host Minnesota on January 15 in what may be the first Monday home dual meet in Iowa Wrestling history. BTN started showing Monday night dual meets and it has proven to be popular. Solid opportunity to compete before a big nationwide TV audience.

I have no doubt there will be a lot of fans tuning in for Iowa at Michigan on February 2 and Penn State at Iowa on February 9.

To close out the regular season it will be the Iowa at Oklahoma State dual meet on February 25 to be televised on FS1.

I will let you know of any additional coverage that may be available online for any of the remaining Iowa dual meets.

Every round of the 2023 Big Ten Championships will be televised live on BTN on March 9-10.

The NCAA Championships on March 21-23 will have full TV coverage on a yet to be named network(s).

Two-time national finalist Jaycee Foeller announced that she was transferring to the University of Iowa Women’s Wrestling program on May 23. Foeller was a national runner-up for Central Methodist this past season and for McKendree in 2022. Foeller was a teammate of current Hawkeye Felicity Taylor who transferred to Iowa from McKendree last season.

Foeller will have two years of eligibility remaining and will be eligible for the upcoming season at 191 lbs.

Originally from DeSoto, Missouri, Foeller was a three-time state champion with a 121-0 record in high school. Foeller was a member of the United State Development Team in high school and was ranked #1 in the country as a senior.

Foeller was a Cadet national champion in 2018 and placed third in 2017. At Junior Nationals she placed second, third and fifth. In 2021 Foeller was named for the Tricia Saunders High School Excellence Award for the state of Missouri.

The new roster has Foeller listed at 191 lbs.

The University of Iowa has released the wrestling schedule for the 2023-24 season. Iowa will host seven dual meets in legendary Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa will also compete at the Soldier Salute in Coralville, Iowa.

The Hawks will open the season on the road at Cal-Baptist in Riverside, California on Saturday, November 4. Iowa will have their home opener on Sunday, November 19 when Oregon State comes to town for a dual meet.

Iowa will be at Iowa State on Sunday, November 26.

For the Big Ten schedule Iowa will host Minnesota (Jan 15), Purdue (Jan 19), Northwestern (Jan 28), Penn State (Feb 9), and Wisconsin (Feb 18). The Minnesota meet will be on a Monday night.

The Hawks will close out the regular season with a dual at Oklahoma State on Sunday, February 25.

Iowa will be at the Big Ten Championships in College Park, Maryland on March 9-10.

The NCAA Championships are in Kansas City, Missouri on March 21-23.
